Vineyards were cultivated on complex, ultra-steep terraces along the Valtellina’s preposterously steep hillsides. Valtellina produces almost exclusively red wines, made of Chiavennasca, the local name for the Nebbiolo grape. Less tannic and powerful, the Nebbiolos of Valtellina are tasteful and delicate.
