This is the city's main square, where one can admire the sumptuous Royal Palace—residence of the House of Savoy, which ruled Turin and Piedmont for nearly a millennium. Standing alongside it is the Royal Church of San Lorenzo, while at the center of the square rises the national monument known as Palazzo Madama, home to the first Italian Senate.
